Marking scheme

  • Each question has 5 options: A, B, C, D and E (E = 'I am not attempting this question').
  • A wrong answer costs 1/3 mark.
  • A question left without marking any option (not even E) also costs 1/3 mark.
  • Class 1–5 merit uses Part II; Class 6–12 merit uses Part II + Part III. Part I (language) is only qualifying.
  • Tie: higher subject (Part III) marks, then Part I marks, then older candidate, then name order.
  • No interview — selection is on the written exam only.

Minimum qualifying marks

Extremely Backward Class (EBC)34%
SC / ST / Women / Divyang32%

How negative marking works — example

Out of 80 subject questions, a candidate answers 60 correctly, 10 wrongly, chooses E for 6 and leaves 4 without any option. Score = 60 − (10 + 4) × 1/3 = 55.33. Choosing E protects you from the 1/3 cut; leaving a question completely blank does not.
